Background Music for UAE Retail Stores
Retail outlets are named in the Ministry’s guide, with annual licence fees from 1 December 2026. Brand-aligned programming, centrally scheduled, fully licensed.
Sound is part of the brand, whether or not it was designed
Every store has a sound. The only question is whether anyone chose it. Where music is left to the shop floor it drifts towards whatever the team on shift enjoys, which is rarely what the brand is trying to say and almost never consistent between sites.
Considered programming does the opposite. It reinforces positioning, sets the pace at which people move through the space, and makes a chain feel like one brand rather than a collection of franchises that share a logo.
Portfolio-scale programming
Retail groups rarely run one format. A flagship, a mall concession and an airport unit serve different customers at different tempos, and the same programme in all three serves none of them well.
We build a profile per format and schedule each against its own trading pattern — mall hours, weekend peaks, late-night trading, seasonal periods. Updates are pushed remotely, so a merchandising change or a campaign launch does not require anyone to visit a store.
Licensing across a portfolio
For a multi-site retailer, the December framework is an administrative question as much as a financial one: a licence per premises, scaled by size, renewed annually, across every unit in the estate.
A directly licensed subscription changes the shape of that. Coverage across all five commercial music rights comes with the service, and because our licences are held with the IP owners rather than through territorial societies, the same arrangement covers stores in any market the group operates.
MUSICVYBE programmes retail environments across Asia-Pacific including Cycle & Carriage, Far East Flora and Indigo Precious Metals, alongside the retail zones of Jewel Changi Airport.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do UAE retail stores need a music licence from December 2026?+
Retail outlets are named in the Ministry of Economy and Tourism’s Collective Management in Music Guide, with annual licence fees applying from 1 December 2026. Fee brackets are scaled by the size of the business and by how music is used.
Is a licence needed for each store or for the company?+
The published framework scales fees by the nature and size of the business, and licences are issued to establishments on an annual renewable basis. Multi-site retailers should confirm how their estate is treated when applying, as the answer materially affects the total.
Does our mall’s licence cover our store?+
Shopping malls and retail outlets are listed as separate covered sectors in the guide. A tenant should not assume that music played within its own unit falls under the landlord’s arrangement, and should confirm its own position directly.
Can we run campaign or seasonal programming?+
Yes. Seasonal and campaign programming is scheduled in advance as part of the managed service and pushed to every site remotely, so no store-level action is required when a campaign goes live.
